Srinagar, April 29 - In the wake of the Pahalgam terror attack, around 50 public parks and gardens in the Kashmir Valley have been closed for tourists as a precautionary measure amid security concerns. Officials said that the gates of 48 out of 87 public parks and gardens in Kashmir have been closed in view of the potential threat to tourists. They said that the security review is an ongoing process and more places may be added to the list in the coming days.
Officials said that the closed tourist places are in remote areas of Kashmir and are among the few new places opened in the last 10 years. The places that have been closed for tourists include Dooshpathri, Kokernag, Duksam, Sinthan Top, Achabal, Bangas Ghati, Margan Top and Tosamaidan. Although the authorities have not issued any formal order in this regard, entry to these places has been closed. Several Mughal Gardens in south Kashmir have also been closed to tourists. The decision to close these popular tourist spots comes a week after militants shot dead 26 people, most of them tourists, in the Besran Valley of Pahalgam last week.
