New Delhi, April 29 - Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi demanding a special session of Parliament to discuss the Pahalgam terror attack and demonstrate collective resolve. In the wake of the horrific attack last week, several opposition MPs have made a similar demand to the government.
India, on the other hand, has cited cross-border links to the horrific incident and promised strict punishment to those involved in the attack. In a letter to the Prime Minister, Kharge said, "At this time, when unity is crucial, the opposition believes that a special session of both the Houses of Parliament must be convened at the earliest." He said, “This will be a powerful demonstration of our collective resolve and will to deal with the brutal terrorist attack on innocent civilians in Pahalgam on April 22. We hope that the session will be called accordingly.”
Earlier, the Congress president had lashed out at Prime Minister Modi during a party rally in Rajasthan on Monday. During this, he accused the BJP of not attending the all-party meeting on the Pahalgam attack and of creating division in the country. Kharge had said, “In this hour of crisis, everyone wants to fight together, but the BJP wants to spread poison and divide the people.”
The party’s general secretary in-charge of communications Jairam Ramesh shared the letter on X and said, “Congress President and Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge wrote a letter to the Prime Minister last night requesting that a special session of both Houses of Parliament be called at the earliest to demonstrate collective will to deal with the situation arising out of the brutal terrorist attacks in Pahalgam on April 22.”
