
Punjab to Emerge as Path Breaker in Fight Against Drugs, says Dr Balbir Singh
SAS Nagar, May 1, 2025: Taking another pathbreaking step as a part of its' ongoing campaign 'Yudh Nasheya Virudh', Bhagawant Singh Mann Government today launched upgraded and renovated "Nasha Mukti Kendra" (at Sector 66), Mohali with enhancing its' bed capacity to 100 besides adding skill training Courses with the help of Sun Foundation. Soon, the bed capacity will be further increased to 200 by constrcting one more floor here.

Punjab, Health and Family Welfare Minister, Dr Balbir Singh inaugurated the improved infrastructure in the presnce of Member Rajya Sabha and patron of Sun Foundation, Vikramjit Singh Sahney and MLA SAS Nagar, Kulwant Singh.
Addressing the media, Dr Balbir Singh said that with the visionary approach of AAP National Convener, Arvind Kejriwal and under the leadership of Chief Minister, Bhagwant Singh Mann, Punjab will soon emerge as a path breaker Model across the world in fight against drugs. He said that drug abuse is the common problem of the world and every one striving hard to get rid from it to protect their citizens. He said that starting with the strong enforcement campaign 'Yudh Nasheya Virudh', about a month ago, the Bhagwant Singh Mann Government has waged a war against the drug smugglers by sending behind bars , recovering huge quantity of contrabands besides examplry demolition drive, which has a direct impact to end the supply chain. Now, to protect the youth got addicted to the drugs in the state, the treatment and rehabilitation part is being strengthened. Punjab has enhanced existing 1500 to 5000 beds in de-addiction centres with addition of skill training Courses at rehabilitation centres with the help of various NGOs.
Applauding the efforts of Sun Foundation led by MP Vikramjit Singh Sahney for extending hand to rehabilitate the addicted youths by imparting skill training, he said that this NGO has given consent to set up these skill training centres at 19 Government De-addiction and Rehabilitation Centres of State starting from Amritsar, Jalandhar and today Mohali. Listing the courses/activities started at Nasha Mukti Kendra Mohali, he said that Computer Course, Mobile Repair Course, Cooking Course, Electrician, Course, Organic Vegetable & Fruit Gardening, Recreation Room, Gym and Sports Area.
Health Minister said that the number of OOAT centres (from now to be known as Nasha Mukti Dawai Kendra) has been increased to 565 and the record of disbursement of medicines through these centres has been digitised.
Dr Balbir Singh said that all the private medical colleges and nursing colleges have been asked to be the part of the campaign 'Yudh Nasheya Virudh' to make Punjab drugs free. He said that Pvt Medical Colleges have responded positively with offering 1200 seats to Government for treatment of De-addiction. He said that Punjab has about 2500 patients in de-addicted centres against the total number of 5000 beds.
He said that there are a number of Non Government Organizations who are coming forward to offer help to the state agianst the fight against drugs.
Calling for a joint fight against the drugs, Health Minister Dr Balbir Singh said that now the time has come to end the Narco Terrorism and Gangsterism to make Punjab, A Rangla Punjab.
Member, Rajya Sabha, Vikramjit Singh Sahney said that he and his NGO, Sun Foundation would always work for the welfare of youth and he thanked the State Government for giving an opportunity to be the part of historic fight against drugs by making the addicted youth of living a healthy and proud life.
MLA Kulwant Singh expressed gratitude to the Health Minister for choosing Mohali De-addiction centre to give infra and other facelift with the starting of skill training Courses here.
Health Minister along with Member Rajya Sabha and MLA Mohali, also visited the upgraded Nasha Mukti Kendra and intercated with the inhabitants. He assured them of treatment and rehabilitation to go ahead in their life. All the dignitaries also planted saplings in Kitchen Garden set up in the centre for making the drug victims able to take care of the vegetable and fruit trees by adopting them personally.
Chairman, Punjab Health System Corporation Raman Behal, Vice Chairman Maninderjit Singh Ghanaur, Principal Secretary, Health and Family Welfare Kumar Rahul, Secretary Basant Garg, ADC Sonam Chaudhary and Civil Surgeon Dr Sangita Jain were among the prominent persons present.
