Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar December 20: Mr. Viraj Shyamkaran Tidke, Additional District Magistrate, Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar; In exercise of the powers vested in him under Section 163 of the BNNS, orders have been issued to outsiders, relatives and supporters (if they are not voters of the concerned constituency/municipality) who came to campaign in favor of the candidates contesting the elections for the Municipal Elections-2024 to leave the concerned constituency/municipality immediately after the end of the election campaign.
He said that the Municipal Elections-2024 in Punjab are scheduled to be held by 21st December 2024. As per the provision made in Section 126 of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, the supporters and relatives of the contesting candidates have been asked to leave the constituency of their candidate on the completion of the election campaign. The presence of such persons during the polling in the constituencies of the candidates may affect the peaceful and proper conduct of the voting process.
Keeping this situation in mind, it has become necessary for the relatives and supporters of the candidates to leave the concerned constituency. This order will not be applicable to civil personnel, army personnel, paramilitary forces and police personnel. This order will come into force with immediate effect within the limits of the district from 20th December 2024 to 22nd December 2024.
To ensure compliance with the instructions issued by the Punjab Election Commission, the District Police Chief, through the heads of the police stations under his jurisdiction, will check the welfare pavilions/community halls/hotels/lodges/restaurants etc. to see whether outsiders have been provided accommodation in them and will identify the outsiders who are not voters of this constituency and prepare their lists.
