Gurudev Tagore was very much influenced by Sikhism. At the age of 11, he came to Amritsar with his father Maharishi Devinder Nath, It is mentioned in his writings.
"I remember the Gurdabara of Amritsar Sahib like a dream. Some days I used to go to the Sikh temple in the middle of the lake with my father. Prayers were always their. My father used to join in these prayers and others. At the age of 21, he wrote an article about the story of Guru Nanak Dev Ji "True Deal (Sache Saude)", about Guru Gobind Singh Ji "Gobind Guru" & "Vir Guru" and about Baba Banda Singh Bahadur "Bandi Bir" written in Bengali language.
The tragedy of Jallianwala Bagh on 13th April 1919 shook his poet heart. His ideology about Western civilization has completely gone bad. The expression of this can be seen in the speech "Crisis of Civilization" given on his last birthday. At this time, he returned to Calcutta from Shanti Niketan, all the political leaders were very scared and no one was ready to listen to him. He was saddened and wrote five letters to his friend Andrews, in which he expressed the grief of this murder.
