Three arrested with 13 kg heroin in drug smuggling cases

Amritsar:- Counter Intelligence (CI) Amritsar has busted two drug smuggling networks and arrested three persons with 13 kg heroin. This information was given here today by DGP Gaurav Yadav.
He said that the arrested accused have been identified as Akashdeep Singh resident of Khemkaran (Tarn Taran), who was currently living in village Kherabad in Amritsar; Mangal Singh and Baljit Singh, both residents of village Bhodiwala, Moga. Apart from recovering the drugs, the police teams have also seized the car used by the accused for drug smuggling.
The DGP said that according to the preliminary investigation, the arrested accused used to receive consignments of heroin from different places and further supply them to different parties across Punjab.
Sharing the details of the first operation, he said that the police teams of CI Amritsar had received a strong information that a large consignment of heroin had reached the suspect Akashdeep. Taking immediate action on this, the police raided the house of Akashdeep Singh in Kherabad and recovered 8 kg of heroin from him.
He said that in another operation based on strong information, two drug smugglers were arrested. At that time, they were going to supply the consignment of drugs in their car, when the CI Amritsar team blocked the Amritsar-Jhabal G.T. Road and stopped the car, in which Mangal Singh and Baljit Singh were travelling. During the search of the vehicle, 5 kg of heroin was recovered from the car.
The DGP said that further investigation is being conducted in this case to identify the other accused in both the cases and expose the entire supply chain.
In this regard, two separate cases have been registered at the State Special Operations Cell (SSOC) police station, Amritsar under sections of the NDPS Act.
