PM Modi Reiterates Offer to Help Putin in Peace Efforts

New Delhi:- Prime Minister Narendra Modi told Russian President Vladimir Putin on Friday that India is ready to assist in peace efforts. He reiterated that dialogue and diplomacy are the way forward to resolve conflicts. The two leaders discussed the ongoing wars in West Asia and the Black Sea region.
The message was conveyed during Modi's bilateral meeting with Putin on the sidelines of the 18th BRICS Summit in New Delhi, which was their second meeting this year. The two leaders had earlier met in Bishkek on August 31 during the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation Summit.
Putin invited Prime Minister Modi to visit Russia for the 24th India-Russia Annual Summit. Modi accepted the invitation, with the dates to be decided through diplomatic channels.
Reflecting India's cultural heritage, the Prime Minister presented Putin with a Russian translation of "Thirukkural", the classical Tamil work written by poet and philosopher Thiruvalluvar. Comprising 1,330 couplets, the work deals with various aspects of ethics and human life.
According to the Ministry of External Affairs, the two leaders reviewed the progress of bilateral cooperation in the areas of political, economic, defence, energy, space, skill mobility and people-to-people ties.
They also discussed the impact of the ongoing conflicts in West Asia and the Black Sea region on maritime trade and the safety of Indian seafarers.
The meeting assumes significance amid the Russia-Ukraine conflict, as India continues to engage with both sides while maintaining its position in support of dialogue and diplomacy.
A few days after Modi met Putin on the sidelines of the SCO Summit in Bishkek, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar travelled to Kyiv, where he held discussions with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha. In Kyiv, Jaishankar said India was ready to help in efforts to end the war and remained in continuous contact with both Russia and Ukraine. Zelenskyy thanked India for its efforts to help end the war.
