Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar, January 27: A blood donation camp was organised on the occasion of Republic Day at Palam Heights Society, Sector-125, Near Climate Tower Jandpur, Kharar in collaboration with Himachali Ekta Manch under the patronage of Mrs. Ashika Jain, IAS Deputy Commissioner-cum-President, District Red Cross Branch, SAS Nagar.
Dr. Ankita Kansal, PCS Assistant Commissioner (J)-cum-Honorary Secretary, District Red Cross Branch participated in the camp and encouraged the donors to donate more and more blood by giving them badges. 26 units of blood were collected in the camp by the team of doctors of Civil Hospital, Phase-6, Mohali.
On this occasion, Assistant Commissioner-cum-Honorary Secretary District Red Cross said that blood donation is a great donation, through which many precious lives can be saved. He said that people have a misconception that donating blood causes weakness in the body, whereas donating blood does not cause any weakness, rather every healthy person must donate blood once in 90 days. This not only helps the needy but also keeps the body healthy.
He said that a virtuous act like blood donation is a great service. There is a need to make it a mass movement, because blood cannot be prepared from any medicine etc., but a person can donate as per his wish. During this camp, Red Cross Secretary Harbans Singh informed the people about the activities being run by Red Cross like first aid training, patient care attendant service, Jan Aushadhi Store Scheme and oxygen concentrator bank facility etc.
Finally, the Secretary District Red Cross Branch appealed to the general public that we should organize as many blood donation and organ donation camps as possible. Along with this, more and more blood donation and organ donation camps should be organized in the villages to make people aware and if any organization or NGO needs any kind of assistance in organizing the camp, then it can contact the Red Cross branch.
