SAS Nagar, June 7 - Lok Bhalai Party President and former Union Minister Mr. Balwant Singh Ramuwalia, while presenting the third daughter Sukhbir Kaur, granddaughter Simranjit Kaur and grandson Jugraj Singh of Bhai Waryam Singh (now deceased), who was kept in jail for 27 years despite being innocent, in front of the journalists during a press conference here today, said that he was forced to do this.

So that the bitter truth of ignoring those who made sacrifices for Sikhism can come to light. He said that the sacrifices of the martyrs who did not bow down despite being ground in the mill of oppression for Sikhism have not been appreciated, but rather have been disrespected.
He said that neither the Akali Dal, the Shiromani Committee, nor any domestic or foreign organization provided any financial assistance or any other help to the family of Bhai Waryam Singh who was in jail. He said that during this time only Sardar Karnail Singh Panjoli, a member of the Shiromani Committee, provided him with financial assistance. He said that apart from this, the Sikhs of England also sent some money on the appeal of Bhai Gurjant Singh Raj Radio.
He said that the Sikh leadership (Akali Dal) never took any notice of him and both the husband and wife passed away after months in a hospital in Bareilly while battling cancer. Their family is still destitute and is suffering from poverty. Their young son earns his living by reciting verses, the future of their children is looking bleak. He said that when he became the Jail Minister of UP, he came to know that Waryam Singh was in jail and he went to meet him.
When he was preparing to release Bhai Waryam Singh, he received a message from Bhai Surat Singh that the government is ready, if Bhai Waryam Singh can wait for two to four months and release him, I replied that for two to four months, I will not be late even for two minutes. On this occasion, the family of Bhai Waryam Singh, a resident of Pilibhit, said that all their land has been sold and the future of our own children is in sight.
He asked that if they can sacrifice for the Sikh community, can't the Sikh community help them. He said that if it were not for Balwant Singh Ramuwalia, our elders would have died in jail. Mr. Balwant Singh Ramuwalia got our elderly Bhai Waryam Singh out of jail, got him treated, and helped us.
He said that even today we have reached them to thank them. He said that thousands of other families like us, who made sacrifices for the Sikh community, their children are still dying of hunger. Isn't it their right that if they have made sacrifices, then the future of their children should be secured.
