The Chief Agriculture Officer said that the Punjab Government on the recommendations of Punjab Agricultural University Ludhiana has put a complete ban on the sale of all varieties of hybrid paddy so that farmers do not face any kind of difficulty during marketing. Therefore, the department is conducting inspections from time to time to ensure that no seed vendor is providing hybrid paddy seeds to the farmers.
Regarding the ban on the sale of hybrid varieties of paddy, major seed sellers of Kharar said that they agree with this move of the government and the agriculture department and are satisfied with the business aspect, because earlier they had to pay more capital to the companies to procure hybrid seeds. Chief Agriculture Officer Dr. Gurmel Singh said that till now a total of 30 samples have been taken under the Seed Act and sent to laboratories to check seed testing standards. He said that among the paddy varieties available with the seed sellers, Kisan Nayak was appealed to give priority to sowing of PR-126, PR-114, PR-128, PR-121, PB 1692, PB 1509, PB 1401 and PB 1718.
