Himachal Pradesh: Loss of Rs 495.82 crore so far during monsoon season, 69 deaths recorded

Shimla, July 4 - A total loss of over Rs 495 crore and at least 69 deaths have been recorded in Himachal Pradesh since the monsoon season began on June 20. According to the situation report released by the State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC) on Friday, this includes 26 deaths in road accidents during this period and a total of 43 deaths so far due to the monsoon.

During this, 55 houses have been completely damaged. Apart from this, 198 cow shelters, several public facilities such as roads, water related facilities, power infrastructure, educational institutions and healthcare etc. are also included. Apart from this, public infrastructure alone has suffered a loss of Rs 287.80 crore, in which the Public Works Department (PWD) has the largest share. The assets of the Jal Shakti Department (JSV), Power, Health, Education, Fisheries, Rural Development, Urban Development and Animal Husbandry Departments have also been damaged.
Apart from these places, private property worth Rs 134.32 crore has been damaged.
Water level in the Beas River has risen after a cloudburst in Himachal Pradesh's Mandi district. 
Meanwhile, 20 deaths have been reported in Mandi district and 80 houses have been completely damaged. The financial loss of the district is Rs 86.78 crore. In Kangra district, 13 deaths, 52 houses have been completely damaged and a loss of Rs 84.93 crore has been reported. Apart from this, significant infrastructure and private property damage has also been recorded in Kullu, Shimla, Solan and Chamba.
The report said that a total of 548 people have died in various disasters in Himachal Pradesh from January to July 3 this year, including 132 deaths in June alone. So far this year, 958 people have been injured due to landslides, cloudbursts, road accidents and other disasters.
