Chandigarh, May 1 - New hurdles have arisen in implementing the decision taken by Bhakra Beas Management Board yesterday to release excess water to Haryana.
8500 cusecs of excess water was to be released to Haryana from Bhakra Dam this morning. Of course, last night itself, BBMB had transferred Bhakra Dam Director (Water Regulation) Akashdeep Singh and appointed Haryana's Sanjeev Kumar as Director (Water Regulation).
Today, when the new Director (Water Regulation) Sanjeev Kumar ordered to open the gates of Bhakra Dam to release excess water to Haryana, the lower officials, who are from Punjab, refused to open the gates of the dam. It has been learnt that the ExC and SDO are from Punjab who have refused to comply with the Director's orders in one way or another. Till the time of writing, no additional water has been released to Haryana.
