The vigilance team had sought Majithia's 12-day remand during arguments in the court. Majithia will now be produced in court again on July 2.
Earlier today, Akali leader Bikram Singh Majithia was produced in the Mohali District Court around 12 noon. In view of the court appearance, the district court complex was turned into a police cantonment and both the gates of the Mohali court were barricaded. During this time, no outsider was being allowed to enter the court premises and even the court staff was allowed to enter the premises only after showing their identity cards.
The security arrangements were personally managed by DIG Rupnagar Range Harcharan Singh Bhullar and Mohali SSP Harmanjit Singh Hans. Media was also not allowed to enter the court premises.
Meanwhile, as a large number of Akali workers started gathering outside the Mohali court and were prevented from entering, they tried to stage a sit-in under the leadership of Youth Akali Dal state president Sarabjit Singh Jhinjar and Akali Dal Mohali region in-charge Parwinder Singh Sohana, following which the police forcibly sent them away in buses. There was some jostling with the Akali workers during this. The police took these protesters to Zirakpur police station, from where they were released around 2.30 pm.
