New Delhi, February 28- Terming the suspension of 21 Aam Aadmi Party MLAs as “injustice to the opposition”, Leader of Opposition in the Delhi Assembly Atishi on Friday wrote to Speaker Vijender Gupta and urged him to “protect democratic values”.
The former Delhi Chief Minister said in her letter to the Speaker, “I am writing this letter with great pain and sorrow. The biggest strength of democracy is its fairness and equality. But whatever happened in the Delhi Assembly in the last few days is not only injustice to the opposition MLAs but also a big setback to democratic values.”
She alleged that “no action” was taken against any MLA of the ruling party. He said, “On 25th February 2025, during the address of the Lieutenant Governor, the ruling party MLAs raised slogans of ‘Modi-Modi’, while the opposition MLAs raised slogans of ‘Jai Bhim’, respecting the thoughts of Babasaheb Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar.
It is very unfortunate that no action was taken against any ruling party MLA, but 21 opposition MLAs were suspended from the House for 3 days for raising the slogan of ‘Jai Bhim’.” It is noteworthy that on 25th February, tension increased in the Delhi Assembly when Speaker Vijender Gupta suspended AAP MLAs including Atishi and Gopal Rai during the uproar before the presentation of the CAG report.
