No compensation will be given in accidents caused by reckless driving: Supreme Court

New Delhi, July 3 - The country's highest court has said that insurance companies are not liable to pay compensation to the families of people who die in accidents due to reckless and rash driving. A bench of Justice PS Narasimha and Justice R Mahadevan has refused to pay compensation of Rs 80 lakh demanded by the wife, son and parents of a person who died in an accident due to speeding.

A bench of Justice PS Narasimha and Justice R Mahadevan has refused to pay compensation of Rs 80 lakh demanded by the wife, son and parents of a person who died in an accident due to speeding.
The Supreme Court has refused to interfere with the orders of the Karnataka High Court dated November 23, 2024. In this regard, the Karnataka High Court had dismissed the petition filed by the legal heirs of the deceased claiming this compensation. The Supreme Court bench said, 'We are not willing to interfere with the decision pronounced by the High Court. Therefore, the special leave petition is dismissed.’
According to the information, NS Ravisha was a victim of an accident on June 18, 2014 in Arasikere town. During this accident, his father, sister and children were also in the car. The court, while pronouncing the verdict, said that Ravisha drove the car carelessly without following the traffic rules and she lost control of the vehicle due to which this accident occurred.
