Chandigarh: Flood gates of Sukhna Lake opened due to rising water level.

Mohali, July 3- The flood gates of Sukhna Lake were opened at 10:30 am today. Along with this, the Mohali Police had appealed to the residents not to go near the Ghaggar river but later this advisory was cancelled. Sources said that the water level in the lake has reached 1158 feet, due to which precautionary measures are being taken downstream.

An official of the Mohali district administration said, “The UT officials have informed the drainage department and police officials verbally but no written notice has been received yet.” Earlier on July 10, 2023, the UT Engineering Department had to open two of the three flood gates of Sukhna Lake.
At that time, the water level had crossed the danger mark of 1,163 feet. In 2020, after the water level crossed the danger mark, the Sukhna Chow caused widespread flooding in the low-lying areas of Zirakpur and Baltana along the Sukhna Chow.
