Una, October 4 - The annual sports festival Yalgar 2024 was inaugurated by Padmashree and Arjuna Awardee DSP Una Ajay Thakur at IIIT Una. The sports festival started with a unique ramp walk in which student representatives demonstrated all the games. During this, a grand march-past was also done by the children.
Chief Guest Ajay Thakur officially inaugurated the sports festival by receiving the torch of Yalgaar 2024 from the student coordinators. Mr. Ajay Thakur and Prof. Manish Gaur, Director, Triple IT Una inaugurated the Kabaddi match by making the first raid and encouraged the students to actively participate in all the games.
During this, Ajay Thakur inspired the students with his journey of sports life. He shared the challenges and successes he faced in his career and underlined the importance of discipline, patience and teamwork. He gave useful tips to the students for success in sports and life and inspired them to pursue their passion with full devotion.
Prof. Manish Gaur, Director urged the students to participate wholeheartedly in Yalgaar 2024. He said that sports play an important role in strengthening mental and physical health. Participation in sports develops qualities like teamwork, leadership and patience, which nurture academic excellence as well as holistic development and prepare students for future challenges. Various indoor, outdoor and athletics competitions will be organized in this month-long sports festival Yalgaar. Indoor games include badminton, chess, carrom and table tennis. While outdoor competitions include sports like kabaddi, kho-kho, volleyball, football, cricket and basketball. This year two new sports like weightlifting and arm wrestling have also been added to the festival. He informed that the winners of the sports competitions will be honored in the closing ceremony to be held on 25 October 2024.
