S.A.S. Nagar, July 15- Mr. Satbir Singh Dhanoa, President of Punjabi Virsa Cultural Society has said that the dominance of non-Punjabis in the bureaucracy of Punjab government is a worrying trend against the interests of the state, which is becoming a serious challenge to the Punjabi language, culture and ground reality of the state.
In a statement issued here, he said that these officers are not only unaware of the Punjabi language, but are also completely unaware of the sentiments and traditions of the local people. He said that the result of this is that the avenues for local officials and youth to work in the state are getting closed.
He said that this outside lobby is also responsible for thwarting the honest efforts made by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann for the Punjabi language. Non-Punjabis are being appointed to responsible posts by the Punjab government, whereas only Punjabi officers can solve the issues related to Punjab with more honesty. But qualified Punjabi officers are being ignored and people brought from outside are being appointed to these posts, who have no real attachment with Punjab or Punjabi people. On the contrary, these people insult Punjabis on every small issue, which is intolerable.
Dhanoa said that this external bureaucracy is also the reason for the failure of the honest efforts made by the Chief Minister towards the mother tongue Punjabi. Although Chief Minister Mr. Bhagwant Singh Mann is seen taking a strong stand in the interest of Punjab in many matters, but this external bureaucracy creates obstacles in implementing the decisions at the ground level and is always ready to marginalize Punjabi language, culture and Punjabis.
He said that with the support of this external lobby, many private schools are taking steps to eliminate the Punjabi language and instead of giving priority to Punjabi, children are being prevented from speaking Punjabi, which is completely unacceptable. He said that it seems that Punjabi officers are being deliberately ignored, while the entire world recognizes the merit of Punjabis.
He said that in every state at least 80 percent of the senior bureaucracy is local, but the opposite is happening in Punjab. In Punjab too, most of the bureaucracy should be from Punjab. In fact, this outside lobby is also the reason for unemployment and other evils not ending, because they have no heartfelt attachment with Punjab.
He stressed that the pulse of the people of any state can only be understood by the residents of that state. Dhanoa has written a letter to Chief Minister Mr. Bhagwant Singh Mann demanding action against this trend. He has appealed to all Punjabis, including elected Sarpanchs, Councillors, MLAs and people holding other constitutional posts, to raise their voice against this anti-Punjabi lobby.
