We know that substance use is a complex issue that affects countless lives across various segments of society. However, when we focus on special populations—whether defined by age, occupation, socio-economic status, or health conditions—the challenges become even more profound, requiring a targeted and nuanced approach. Substance use disorders are increasing in our society and use among the special populations (like children and adolescents, women, old age etc.,) are also being reported. Substance use in vulnerable populations leads to heavy burden on the individuals and society in general. Hence awareness among the lay public and health professional health workers is of great importance from public health point of view.
In the CME speakers who are working in this area from different parts of India will be there. The CME will be inaugurated by Prof Vivek Lal,Director PGIMER. Prof Pratima Murthy Director NIMHANS, Bangalore who has been working with women who use substances for last 3-4 decades will talk on extent and risk factors for substance use in women. Prof Anju Dhawan Chief NDDTC, AIIMS New Delhi who has been working with adolescents who use substances for last 3 decades will talk on extent of substance use in children and adolescents. There are other well renowned speakers from different parts of India who will be attending the CME.
