
Mega District Level Women Health and Employment Camp held at Nawanshahr
Nawanshahr- A mega district level women health and placement camp was successfully organized by the District Administration Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar at ITI Ground, Nawanshahr. The objective of this camp was to empower women by providing them with employment opportunities and spreading awareness about various government schemes. Around 500 people participated in the event, out of which around 450 were women.

The objective of this camp was to empower women by providing them with employment opportunities and spreading awareness about various government schemes. Around 500 people participated in the event, out of which around 450 were women.
During this, free medical check-up of women including consultation with Gynaecologists, Physiotherapists and ENT specialists were provided. During this, more than 375 women availed the services for medical check-up and received free medicines and health advice.
Similarly, many companies including Flipkart, LIC, SBI Life, Hope Marketing and Punjab Skill Development participated in the placement drive. During this, appointment letters were given to the women selected for the job on the spot. Apart from this, under the social welfare initiatives, the 'Beti Bachao Beti Padhao' (BBBP) calendar was released and besides giving prizes, track suits and boots to 60 girls, sponsorship benefits were given to five beneficiaries.
Appointment letters were issued to 9 successful candidates selected for the job. Deputy Commissioner Rajesh Dhiman informed on the occasion that under Mission Pragati, girls are also being given army and police training. Similarly, children from economically weaker sections are also being given civil services coaching. The event included cultural performances, awareness sessions and lectures by experts, including a motivational talk by renowned writer and former Information Commissioner Khushwant Singh. Darshan Dardi and BDPO SBS Nagar presented poems highlighting the government schemes.
During the event, Punjab Lit Foundation also organised a large-scale awareness programme called ‘Mothers Against Drugs’, emphasizing on the crucial role of mothers in preventing drug abuse among children. Khushwant Singh, former State Information Commissioner and co-founder of Punjab Lit Foundation, encouraged mothers to recognise their power as the first line of defence.
He said, “Punjab’s fight against drugs starts at home, with mothers leading the way. When armed with awareness and support, they can be the strongest force against this menace.”
