49 Codeine Syrup Bottles and 520 Alprazolam Tablets Seized During Raid in Sohna

Chandigarh, September 14:- Additional Chief Secretary of the Health and Family Welfare Department, Dr. Sumita Mishra, said that a joint team of the Haryana Drugs Control Department and the police conducted a raid in Kabir Nagar, Sohna, Gurugram. The raid was conducted in connection with the alleged illegal storage and sale of intoxicating medicines, during which 49 bottles of codeine-based syrup and 520 alprazolam tablets were seized.
Dr. Mishra said that the raid was conducted by a team led by Mukesh Kumar, Drugs Control Officer, Gurugram-III. The team also included ASI Wahid Khan, LHC Rachna of Sohna Police Station and other police officials.
The team raided a residential house in Kabir Nagar, Sohna, which was allegedly being used by Aamir, son of Imran, for the illegal storage and sale of intoxicating medicines.
According to information provided by Dr. Mishra, when the team reached the location, the women present inside the house closed the entry gate from inside. The team tried to enter the house, while some neighbours also created a commotion at the spot.
She said that during this time, a plastic sack containing 49 bottles of codeine syrup and a box containing 520 alprazolam tablets were thrown from the roof of the house onto open land behind the house.
After this, the accused Aamir allegedly fled from the spot, but was later arrested by the police.
The seized medicines were taken into police possession. Thereafter, a complaint was submitted at Sohna Police Station for registration of an FIR under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
The case is related to the alleged illegal storage and sale of medicines containing narcotic/psychotropic substances. She further directed that the sale of codeine-based syrup, alprazolam and other dual-use prescription medicines should be carried out only on the valid prescription of a registered medical practitioner. All chemists have been directed to strictly comply with these regulations and not to sell or supply these medicines without a prescription.
