37Day Strike by Sanitation Workers Ends

Ambala, 12 September:- The 37-day strike by the Municipal Employees Union, Haryana, has finally come to an end. Following the conclusion of the strike, all employees returned to work today and the process of restoring the city’s deteriorating sanitation system has begun. The return of the employees to work is expected to bring relief to the residents.
Sewa Ram Bohat, Vice-President of the Municipal Employees Union, Haryana, said that an agreement was reached on their 16 demands during a meeting with the government. Following this, the union decided to end the strike and directed all employees to return to work. He said that they have withdrawn the strike. The government has sought 15 days’ time, and the entire process will take 45 days. If the government extends its promise, they will be forced to go on strike again. The government has woken up late. The government had entered into agreements earlier as well. We want the government to honour the agreement it has now reached.
The leaders said that the employees had been on strike for 37 days to get their demands accepted. During this period, several rounds of talks were held with the government, but the strike continued as no agreement could be reached, affecting the sanitation system across the state. Sewa Ram Bohat said that the employees are happy after an agreement was reached on their demands during the meeting with Chief Minister Nayab Saini. He also thanked the political parties and the media for their support during the agitation.
