21873 Cases Settled During National Lok Adalat in Mohali District

Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar, 12 September:- As per the programme sent by the National Legal Services Authority, New Delhi, the National Lok Adalat was organised in the district today under the leadership of the Executive Chairman, Punjab State Legal Services Authority, under the patronage of Justice S. Jasgurpreet Singh Puri, Judge, Punjab and Haryana High Court and Administrative Judge, Sessions Division, Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar, and under the directions of S. Atul Kasana, District and Sessions Judge, S.A.S. Nagar. Compoundable criminal cases, cheque bounce cases, bank recovery cases, matrimonial disputes, MACT cases, labour-related disputes, land acquisition cases, matters related to water bills, revenue department-related matters and all types of civil cases were taken up for settlement in this Lok Adalat.
For this National Lok Adalat, 18 benches were constituted at the District Court Mohali. These benches were presided over by S. Hardeep Singh, Additional District and Sessions Judge; Smt. Neetika Verma, Additional District and Sessions Judge; S. Tejpratap Singh Randhawa, Additional District and Sessions Judge; Smt. Navdeep Kaur Gill, Additional District and Sessions Judge; S. Randhir Verma, Principal Judge, Family Court; S. Amanpreet Singh, Additional Principal Judge, Family Court; S. Abhay Rajan Shukla, Civil Judge (Junior Division); Smt. Poonam Kashyap, Civil Judge (Junior Division); S. Kirandeep Singh, Civil Judge (Junior Division); S. Sangam Kaushal, Civil Judge (Junior Division); S. Pallav Arora, Civil Judge (Junior Division); Smt. Gurleen Kaur, Civil Judge (Junior Division); Smt. Anu Chaudhary, Civil Judge (Junior Division); Smt. Kamal Varinder, Presiding Officer, Industrial Tribunal; Smt. Gurmeet Kaur, Chairperson, Permanent Lok Adalat (Public Utility Services); Tehsildar, S.A.S. Nagar; Naib Tehsildar, Banur; and Presiding Officer, District Consumer Commission.
In addition, six benches were constituted at the Sub-Division Dera Bassi under Smt. Sudipa Kaur, Civil Judge (Junior Division); Smt. Gurpreet Kaur, Civil Judge (Junior Division); Smt. Nandita, Civil Judge (Junior Division); Smt. Renika Gera, Civil Judge (Junior Division); S. Amit Gupta, SDM; and S. Bir Karan, Tehsildar, Dera Bassi. Five benches were constituted at Kharar under the leadership of S. Mandeep Singh Kaith, Civil Judge (Junior Division); Smt. Shweta Das, Civil Judge (Junior Division); Dr. Seema Agnihotri, Civil Judge (Junior Division); Naib Tehsildar, Kharar; and Naib Tehsildar, Majri.
For this National Lok Adalat, all courts in Mohali, Dera Bassi and Kharar placed the maximum possible number of cases for settlement through compromise. Cases were placed before the National Lok Adalat for settlement with the consent of the respective parties by all courts in the district and sub-divisions, and these cases were disposed of. For the successful conduct of this National Lok Adalat, S. Atul Kasana, Hon’ble District and Sessions Judge-cum-Chairman, District Legal Services Authority, S.A.S. Nagar, convened various meetings from time to time, in which all judges were encouraged to ensure the disposal of the maximum possible number of cases in the National Lok Adalat. The District and Sessions Judge also informed officials of various departments, such as banks, the Electricity Department, the Labour Department and insurance companies, about the National Lok Adalat and told them that all cases that could be settled through compromise should be placed before the National Lok Adalat.
Smt. Megha Dhaliwal, Secretary, District Legal Services Authority, S.A.S. Nagar, stated that a total of 26,836 cases were placed for disposal in today’s National Lok Adalat, out of which 21,873 cases were disposed of and awards amounting to a total value of Rs 203,23,40,625/- were passed.
