Una, December 18 - A one-day training workshop on solid and liquid waste management was organized today (Thursday) at the Una Municipal Corporation. This workshop was organized under the Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban) 2.0, jointly by the Directorate of Urban Development, Himachal Pradesh, and the sanitation knowledge partner organization, Himalayan Institute for Environment, Ecology and Development (HIFEED).
Officers, sanitation inspectors, sanitation supervisors, school teachers, representatives of trade organizations, and members of self-help groups (SHGs) from Una Municipal Corporation, as well as from the Nagar Panchayats of Amb, Gagret, Daulatpur, Santoshgarh, Tahliwal, and Mehatpur, actively participated in this training workshop.
The workshop was inaugurated by Joint Commissioner of Una Municipal Corporation, Manoj Kumar, and District Coordinator, Munish Jassal. On this occasion, they emphasized the importance of public participation in making cities garbage-free and called for adopting sanitation as a comprehensive mass movement.
During the workshop, detailed information was provided on various aspects of solid and liquid waste management for creating garbage-free cities. The training session highlighted the goals and objectives of Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban) 2.0, household and bulk waste generators, waste classification, waste segregation at source, Swachh Survekshan, effective waste management strategies and best practices, behavioral change, and the institutional structure of the mission.
In addition, a detailed discussion was held on the key provisions of the Solid Waste Management Rules, 2016, enabling the participants to gain a better understanding of the practical implementation of the rules.
Subject matter experts Gyan Prakash Mishra, Prakash Dutt Bhatia, Anil Painuly, and Subhash Sharma from the HIFEED organization were present on this occasion.
