Hisar, March 20: The Department of Applied Psychology at Guru Jambheshwar University of Science and Technology, Hisar, organized a significant workshop on the subject of "Neurodevelopmental Disorders." This workshop was conducted for students pursuing M.Sc. in Psychology, a PG Diploma in Guidance and Counseling, and an Advanced Diploma in Child Counseling.
Mr. Rajpal Singh Basniwal (Senior Rehabilitation Professional, Divyang Ekadhikar Rehabilitation Trust, Hisar) and Dr. Shivanshi Tomar (Psychologist) served as the resource persons for the workshop. The program commenced with a welcome address delivered by the Head of the Department, Dr. Sanjay Kumar. In his address, he noted that the prevalence of neurodevelopmental disorders is currently on the rise; therefore, students of psychology must acquire specialized expertise in this field.
During the workshop, experts provided detailed information regarding the symptoms, etiology (causes), and management protocols for major disorders such as Autism Spectrum Disorder, ADHD, Intellectual Disability, Specific Learning Disorder, and Developmental Coordination Disorder. They explained that these disorders originate during the brain's developmental phase in childhood and impact an individual's behavior, learning abilities, and social life.
Emphasizing the critical importance of managing autism, the experts also shed light on the growing issue of "Virtual Autism." They highlighted that excessive internet and screen usage is leading to an increase in problems among children, such as a lack of social interaction and reduced attention spans. A key highlight of the workshop was that, alongside theoretical knowledge, students were provided with practical and clinical exposure. Through real-life examples, students were educated on the identification, assessment, and treatment procedures associated with these disorders.
On this occasion, a brief exercise related to stress management was also conducted, demonstrating techniques for maintaining mental equilibrium through breathing exercises and specific hand movements. The program was anchored by Sakshi and Bharti. Dr. Poonam, Dr. Gobind Yadav, and Dr. Monika were also present on this occasion. The program concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Sneha Mittal.
