Chandigarh, July 14:- Haryana Public Health Engineering and Public Works Minister Mr. Ranbir Gangwa said that strengthening the drinking water, sewerage and sanitation infrastructure in the state is among the top priorities of the state government. With this aim, 712 new water supply, sewerage and storm water drainage projects have been approved for the year 2026-27 at a cost of Rs 2,534.39 crore. Under this, work will now be completed quickly in new water supply, sewerage and storm water drainage projects in different areas of Haryana, the main objective of which is that the common people get better and better facilities.
Cabinet Minister Shri Ranbir Gangwa said that the double engine government under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Shri Naib Singh Saini is working fast to modernize water supply, sewerage and sanitation facilities in the state. He said that the government's goal is to provide clean drinking water to every household, provide better sewerage system and make water management more effective. With the completion of these projects, the common people in both urban and rural areas of the state will get the benefit of better facilities.
He said that in the 59th meeting of the Haryana Water Supply and Sewerage Board, 712 new water supply, sewerage and storm water drainage projects have been approved for the year 2026-27 at a cost of Rs. 2,534.39 crore. Under this, 69 water supply projects have been approved at a cost of Rs. 603.32 crore to strengthen the drinking water system in the rapidly developing cities. These include major water supply schemes of Bahadurgarh, Dharuhera, Jhajjar, Narnaul, Rewari and Kurukshetra.
The Minister said that 18 sewerage projects have been approved at a cost of Rs. 526.49 crore to strengthen the urban sewerage system. These include major projects of Bahadurgarh, Jhajjar, Narnaul, Rewari, Kurukshetra, Jagadhri and Rohtak. Apart from this, 2 projects have been approved at a cost of Rs. 19.11 crore to improve the rainwater drainage system in Ellenabad and Bawani Khera.
Mr. Ranbir Gangwa said that to further improve drinking water facilities in rural areas, 603 new water supply extension and improvement schemes have been approved at a cost of Rs. 1,108.28 crore during the current financial year 2026-27. Under these schemes, new tubewells will be installed, canal-based water bodies will be constructed, existing canal-based water bodies will be enlarged, various boosting stations will be constructed, new pipelines will be laid in newly developed areas and old pipelines will be replaced.
He informed that for the expansion of sewerage facilities in rural areas, 13 Mahagram Sewerage Projects at a cost of Rs. 203.58 crore and 3 Mahagram Water Supply Projects at a cost of Rs. 71.58 crore have been approved. These include major projects in 5 villages of Ujjina, Babain and Ramsaran Majra, Umri and Tikli group.
Apart from this, 2 works for drinking water supply in rural settlements at an estimated cost of Rs. 44 crore and 2 works for institutional strengthening of Public Health Engineering Department have been approved at an estimated cost of Rs. 1.58 crore.
He said that the Chief Minister has directed the department to complete all the projects within the stipulated time frame, promote the use of solar energy at departmental establishments and improve the collection of water charges. Also, a target has been set to increase the coverage of urban water connections from 90 percent to 93 percent by March 31, 2027. Cabinet Minister Shri Ranbir Gangwa said that safe drinking water, effective sewerage system and sustainable water management are among the top priorities of the state government. He said that the Haryana Government is fully committed to providing quality drinking water, better sanitation facilities and modern water management services to every citizen of the state.
