Hansi: The sit-in protest demanding drinking water in Chanaut village continued for the 38th consecutive day today. Several individuals visited the protest site to extend their support, including Delhi University Students' Union President Raunak Khatri, Rohit Dalal (NSUI), Vikas Dhanda and Sovin Berwal (Youth Congress), and Aam Aadmi Party leaders Rajendra Sorkhi and Ramesh Pannu.
Responding to XEN Sanjeev Tyagi's statement regarding the filing of cases, Satyavan Sarpanch and Anoop Chanaut—representing the protest committee—stated that instead of filing lawsuits, officials should focus on granting legal recognition to the 'T-point' connection and working on the pipeline construction. They urged that the pipeline work begin as soon as possible so that residents of the city and Chanaut village can access drinking water.
They emphasized that the villagers' movement is peaceful and rooted in the public interest. They demanded that the administration grant legal recognition to the T-point, withdraw the cases registered against the protesting villagers, and initiate the work of laying the pipeline from the T-point to the Chanaut waterworks.
The committee warned that the agitation would continue and pipeline work would not be allowed to proceed until these demands are resolved.
The villagers stated that their struggle is for a permanent drinking water supply system for the people of Chanaut village. While the government has already arranged for the T-point connection, they urged that the subsequent pipeline be laid quickly to connect it to the Chanaut waterworks and that the village's other demands be fulfilled promptly.
