Hisar, March 27: A high-level and practical workshop on the subject of Mental Health and Stress Management was successfully organized by the Department of Psychology at Government College, Hisar, in collaboration with the Divyang Ekadhikar Rehabilitation Trust. Students from the first and second years of the M.A. Psychology program, as well as B.A. students, participated enthusiastically and played an active role in this training program. The program commenced with a welcome address delivered by Assistant Professor Dr. Chandrakant Gorsi. In his address, he stated that in the modern era, mental health is not merely a subject of study, but rather the very foundation of an individual's overall quality of life, work efficiency, and social adjustment.
The workshop's lead trainer, Rajpal Singh Basniwal (Founder, Divyang Ekadhikar Rehabilitation Trust), and co-trainer, Dr. Nidhi Kalra, provided the students with a scientific and practical perspective on the concept of mental health—including its major types, determining factors, and the far-reaching impact it has on one's life. They clarified that mental health represents a state of cognitive, emotional, and behavioral equilibrium within an individual, directly influencing their decision-making, relationships, and personality development.
The trainers highlighted that in today's competitive and dynamic lifestyle, stress has emerged as a common yet serious challenge. If not managed effectively and in a timely manner, it can lead to anxiety, depression, and various other psychological issues. Consequently, acquiring knowledge of scientific stress management techniques—such as mindfulness, breathing exercises, cognitive restructuring, and behavioral exercises—is absolutely essential.
Throughout the workshop, students were taught—through various experiential activities and psychological exercises—how to identify, control, and manage stress in their daily lives. These activities played a pivotal role in fostering self-awareness and mental equilibrium among the students.
In her presidential address, the Head of the Department, Dr. Nirmal Kaushik, remarked that this training on mental health and stress management holds immense relevance for students of psychology. She emphasized its utility not only in the students' personal lives but also within their future professional endeavors. On this occasion, Assistant Professors Dr. Kannupriya and Dr. Chandrakant Gorsi, along with other faculty members, were present.
The program concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by the Head of the Department, Dr. Nirmal Kaushik. Expressing his gratitude to the Chief Trainer, Rajpal Singh Basniwal, and Co-trainer, Dr. Nidhi Kalra, he remarked that such training programs are immensely beneficial for the holistic development of students.
Finally, sharing their experiences, the students stated that this workshop provided them with a deep understanding of the practical aspects of mental health—including its importance, various types, causes, and solutions—which they would be able to effectively apply in their own lives.
