Kapurthala:- Continuing the series of literary and annual honor ceremonies, this year the second memorial award of late poet Surinder Pal Singh Sandhu was given to the renowned poet and translator of Punjab, Prakash Kaur Sandhu. With the mutual cooperation of the Sandhu family and the renowned literary organization of the area, Siryanka Kendra Kapurthala, this honor ceremony was held at the office of Siryanka Kendra, Virsa Vihar.
Mr. Tejinder Singh Maur (Retd. DIG) attended this special ceremony as the chief guest, while the president of the center, international poet Kanwar Iqbal Singh, Surinder Pal Singh Sandhu’s son Gurtej Singh (Raja Sandhu), master poet Surjit Sajan, Roop Daburji etc. were present in the presidium of the ceremony.
Inaugurating the event, General Secretary of the Center, Shahbaz Khan, spoke about the literary activities of the Center and said that the stature of the Society has been further elevated by giving this honor. He said that the late poet Surinderpal Singh Sandhu also served as Deputy Secretary in the Punjab School Education Board for a long time. President Kanwar Iqbal Singh Ji, while welcoming the guests, said that the Siryan Kendra is a literary institution of about forty-four years old which has produced many renowned poets.
He discussed in detail the literary life of Surinderpal Singh Sandhu and Parkash Kaur Sandhu. After this, the General Secretary inaugurated the Kavi Darbar in which the poets and writers Malkit Singh Meet, Avtar Singh Gill, Rajni Walia, Ashu Kumra, Avtar Singh Bhandal, Sarwan Singh, Aman Gandhi, Mangal Singh Bhandal (National Awardee) Tejbir Singh, eminent social worker and poet Promila Arora gave an even more intense literary form to the event with their compositions.
Ustad poet Surjit Sajan captivated the audience with his ghazal and said that the creation center and the Sandhu family deserve congratulations that they have taken this commendable step of a memorable honor with mutual cooperation. Ustad poet Roop Daburji, after reciting his composition, said that the family of a poet plays an important role in keeping him alive after his death, for which the Sandhu family deserves praise. Presiding over the function, prominent leader of the area Ranjit Singh Khojewal said that such literary institutions prove to be helpful in elevating the name of literature and poets through their efforts, of which the Syarya Kendra is one. Gurtej Singh Raja Sandhu, in his words, gave a glimpse into the life and literary journey of his father Surinderpal Singh Sandhu and said that poetry is such a passion that connects a person with respect and also creates light within a person.
He said that his family is committed to giving this literary honor to worthy and hardworking writers of the area every year in the memory of his father. Adeshinder Singh Sandhu mentioned the memorable moments spent with his grandfather.
Prakash Kaur Sandhu said that while she is feeling very happy and proud after receiving this honor, she is also sincerely grateful to the Sandhu family and the Syarya Kendra for this respect. The chief guest of the function was Mr. Talking about the closeness between himself and the Sandhu family, Tejinder Singh Maur said that Surinderpal Singh Sandhu was a good officer as well as a sensitive poet. In his words, he also talked about his sweet and warm memories associated with the Sandhu family.
After this, the honor ceremony was held. The Sandhu family honored Prakash Kaur Sandhu with the Late Surinderpal Singh Sandhu Memorial Honorary Medal and a plaque of honor. President of the Creation Center Kanwar Iqbal Singh, General Secretary Shahbaz Khan, Senior Vice President Ashu Kumra, Vice President Malkit Singh Meet and advisors Avtar Singh Gill and Avtar Singh Bhandal presented the plaque of honor to Surinderpal Singh's wife Sarabjit Kaur Sandhu.
The entire Sandhu family, office bearers and members of the Creation Center honored the chief guest Tejinder Singh Maur with the plaque of honor. In this special event, Surinder Pal Singh's wife Sarabjit Kaur Sandhu, daughter-in-law Sukhwinder Kaur Sandhu, grandsons Adeshinder Singh Sandhu, Jagateshwar Singh Sandhu were present from the Sandhu family. Finally, President Kanwar Iqbal Singh thanked everyone for attending the event.
In this event, among the literati and literature lovers from the country and abroad, Ravinder Singh Bains and Harinder Singh Bains Brothers Canada, Dr. Pritpal Singh, Ranjit Singh Khojewal, Narinder Singh Cheema and other personalities were also honored with awards.
