Sangrur: Dr. Ravjot Grewal, IPS, SSP Sangrur, informed the press that the Sangrur Sub-division police registered 08 cases under the NDPS Act last week (30.06.2026 to 06.07.2026) as part of the "War Against Drugs" and "Pindan De Pehredar" (Village Sentinels) campaigns. During this period, 18 accused were arrested, and 65 grams of heroin/synthetic drugs ('Chitta') were recovered from them. Additionally, one case was registered under the Excise Act; one accused was arrested, and 24 bottles of country-made liquor ('Ranjha Saufi') were seized. Six other individuals were arrested in connection with heinous crimes. To assist those trapped in drug addiction, 11 individuals were admitted to de-addiction centers, and 10 received medical treatment. Approximately 115 traffic challans were issued against vehicles violating traffic rules. Following checks on suspicious individuals, action was taken against 158 ??people under Section 172 of the BNSS, and preventive action was initiated against 06 individuals.
The SSP appealed to the general public to cooperate with the anti-drug campaign. Awareness is being spread among the public and youth through meetings with panchayats, sports clubs, and prominent citizens so that information regarding drug smugglers can be provided to the police in a timely manner and this scourge eradicated from the roots. Immediate legal action is being taken against drug sellers upon receipt of information. This battle against drugs continues.
