Bilaspur (Himachal Pradesh), October 7- A major road accident occurred in Bilaspur district of Himachal Pradesh on Tuesday evening. A passenger bus traveling from Marotan to Ghumarwin was completely crushed by debris in the Bhalu area near Barthi. Fifteen people have been confirmed dead so far, while several others are feared trapped.
According to reports, the accident occurred around 6:25 p.m., when the bus was carrying approximately 30 passengers. Immediately after the accident, the SDRF, police, and local residents began rescue and relief operations. Two children were rescued safely from the debris, but 15 to 20 people are still feared trapped.
It is reported that continuous rain has been lashing many areas of Bilaspur since Tuesday morning, increasing the risk of landslides in the hilly areas. In the Bhalu area, a large section of mountain suddenly slid and fell on a bus.
Relief teams are continuously working to remove the debris, but the rain is hampering the operation. Senior administration officials have also reached the spot. An emergency has been declared in hospitals in Ghumarwin and Bilaspur, while people from nearby villages are also assisting in the rescue efforts.
According to government sources, the process of identifying the deceased is ongoing. The state government has ordered a high-level investigation into the incident and announced immediate relief assistance to the affected families.
This accident once again reminds us how dangerous travel on Himachal's mountain roads can be during the rainy season. The continuous rain has not only affected life but also raised serious questions about the security arrangements in the mountainous regions.
