Mohali, October 12—A meeting of the Government School Lecturers Union, Punjab, was chaired by State President Mr. Sanjeev Kumar, attended by district presidents, general secretaries, and in particular, Sukhdev Lal Babbar, General Secretary of the Gazetted Education School Service Union, Jalandhar.
Various issues related to the lecturer cadre were discussed at the meeting. Giving information in this regard, Sanjeev Kumar stated that the issue of the general elections of the Government School Lecturers Union, Punjab, was seriously discussed.
The attendees agreed to hold elections in the next few months. He stated that he himself had retired from the post of lecturer and wanted to lead a new team. He stated that according to the union's constitution, these elections should have been held long ago, but due to some unavoidable reasons, they have been delayed.
* Since 2021, many lecturers have retired, many have been promoted to principals, and many more have joined the cadre through promotion from the master cadre. Providing representation to these newly inducted members is the union's duty and the right of these newly inducted members.
State President Sanjeev Kumar stated that the election schedule will be released in November, and the entire democratic election process, including membership, block-level elections, district-level elections, and the formation of the state committee, will be completed by February. The members present at the meeting unanimously agreed to release the election schedule in November.
He expressed hope that the entire lecturer community will participate enthusiastically in these elections and select new, combative members for the betterment of the cadre.
* State General Secretary Ravinderpal Singh and Sardar Bahadur Singh, District Patiala President Amarjit Singh Walia and District Ropar President Avtar Singh said that there are 1000 vacant posts of Principals in Punjab, out of which 700 posts of Lecturer quota should be filled immediately in the interest of school management and students.
Sangrur President Sardar Jaspal Singh Walia and Sardar Baljit Singh said that the seniority list of Lecturers prepared in 2025 is full of errors and there is no uniformity of rules in it. Instead of changing the rules as per the need to benefit their favourites, the seniority list should be reviewed in the light of the decisions of the Hon'ble Court, Punjab Government policies and department rules and the final seniority list should be released.
*State Press Secretary Ranbir Singh Sohal and State Treasurer Mr. Ramveer said that the pay scales discontinued by the Punjab Government should be restored, DA should be linked to the DA system of the Central Government as before, the 7th Pay Commission has been unfairly imposed on the lecturers recruited after July 2020, they should also be brought under the purview of the 6th Pay Commission and the arrears of the 6th Pay Commission should be released.
Parminder Kumar Babli, Vikas Bhambhi, Bhupinder Singh Bhatti and other leaders were present on the occasion.
