Ambala, December 21: The Communist Party of India (Marxist) expresses deep concern over the recent developments in Bangladesh. The party urges the interim government of Bangladesh to take immediate action against the attacks on minorities and media institutions and to protect the rights of the people.
CPI(M) leader Satish Sethi said here today that the cowardly attacks on two of the most respected cultural institutions, Chhayanaut and Udichi, are deplorable.
It appears that religious fundamentalist forces are trying to increase their influence in Bangladesh by dividing society on communal lines and attacking minorities and media institutions that are not favorable to them. The rise of religious fundamentalist forces will have a devastating impact not only on Bangladesh but on the entire region.
Sethi warned that communal forces on both sides of the border might try to exploit the situation to incite each other and spread hatred. Therefore, maintaining social harmony and democracy is the need of the hour. He said that the CPI(M) is confident that the people of Bangladesh will remain united during this difficult time and uphold the values ??of the 1971 Liberation War.
He said that the interim government should take all necessary steps to ensure that communal forces are curbed and those responsible for the violence are brought to justice. It should also ensure that the elections are held in a free and fair manner, allowing the people to express their will without any fear.
