Chandigarh:- Regarding the objections being expressed by the Sikh community regarding the 'Jagat Jyot Sri Guru Granth Sahib Satkar (Amendment) Act 2026' passed by the Punjab government, the Chief Granthi of Sachkhand Sri Harmandir Sahib (Sri Darbar Sahib), all the Singh Sahibs, the Chief Granthi of Sri Akal Takht Sahib and the Additional Chief Granthi held a special meeting today and held a serious discussion on it.
After this, through a press statement issued to the media, all the Singh Sahibs suggested to the Chief Minister of Punjab that:
"The law to punish every culprit and sinner who desecrates Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji is undoubtedly in the interest of the nation. However, at the same time, it is highly objectionable to bring the great institutions of the Sikh community, Granthi Singhs, Gurdwara Committees and Sangat under the legal ambit in matters related to 'Maryada' in addition to the crime of sacrilege."
All the Singh Sahibs suggested to the Punjab government and the Chief Minister to introspect on this sensitive issue and said that amending the law according to Sikh sentiments is in the interest of the nation, on which the government should not adopt a rigid attitude.
All the Singh Sahibs of Sachkhand Sri Harmandir Sahib and the Chief Granthi of Sri Akal Takht Sahib emphasized on behalf of the Granthi Singhs of the entire nation that:
The service side of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji, i.e. the Granthi Singhs, are like the backbone of the nation.
They should not be intimidated by any law.
The law should be such that the Granthi Singhs themselves support it to propagate and follow it.
Therefore, the Chief Minister should immediately take the initiative to remove the sections from this law that go against the Granthi class, Sikh institutions, Gurdwara Committees and Sangat.
