Patiala October 13- Technical Services Union Circle President Harjit Singh Sekhon and Circle Secretary Biresh Kumar informed the press that the Punjab government and Powercom management are taking decisions to sell the lands of the electricity department. The organization condemned this decision of the Punjab government and Powercom management and demanded that this decision be withdrawn.
The leaders said that at the time of construction of the electricity department, these lands were donated to the government by the people of Punjab for the construction of grid/power houses. But the government is implementing the policy of privatization under the imperialist guidelines and the step of selling these lands of the electricity department to private companies is being taken out of the need to completely hand over the electricity department to private companies.
Under this policy, instead of regular recruitment by creating new posts in the power department according to the workload, the work of power management is being carried out through an outsourced system, decisions are being taken to hand over Kharar and Lalru and other divisions to private companies, preparations are being made to hand over the work of resolving consumer complaints to private companies, the salary scales of the central government have been implemented for the employees of the power department, under this policy, the lands of the farmers of Punjab are being snatched and handed over to corporate houses.
This privatization policy is not being implemented only in the power department, it is being implemented in all departments. Water tanks in villages are being handed over to private companies after panchayatization. Steps are being taken to hand over government hospitals to private companies. Steps are being taken to hand over government schools to private companies.
The leaders said that against the devastating attack of imperialist-led privatization being implemented in the country, employees of all departments, farmers, and workers need to take the path of massive, intense and joint struggles. Only by taking this path can our existence be saved. It is under this privatization policy that two leaders of Patiala Circle, Banarasi Das and Ram Singh, have been dismissed. The organization demands that they be reinstated as per the court decisions.
