Karnal, November 27: SDM Assandh Rahul stated that female foeticide is a serious crime and no one involved in this crime should be spared. Strict compliance with the PNDT Act should be ensured in the district, and ultrasound centers should be inspected regularly, and strict legal action should be taken against violators.
SDM Rahul was speaking at a meeting organized by the Health Department in the auditorium of the Mini Secretariat here today. He said that to improve the sex ratio in the district, officials from the Health Department, as well as the Panchayat and Women and Child Development Departments, should take concrete steps to raise awareness and make joint efforts. He said that people from villages with a good sex ratio should interact with those from villages with a low sex ratio to improve the sex ratio.
He called for regular inspections of ultrasound centers and raids in neighboring states. He added that both conducting and conducting sex determination tests are crimes under the law, and strict vigilance should be maintained against such individuals and strict action should be taken.
At the meeting, Deputy Civil Surgeon and PNDT Nodal Officer Dr. Sheenu Chaudhary stated that the health department is continuously making efforts to improve the sex ratio. In October, the district's sex ratio was 939. Awareness camps are being held in villages with low sex ratios, and pregnant women are also being encouraged to register at Anganwadi centers. She added that five raids have been conducted in the last three months, which were successful.
