Lehragaga/Sangrur, August 24:- A sports stadium constructed at a cost of around Rs 33 lakh at village Chural Khurd was dedicated to the public by Punjab Cabinet Minister Barinder Kumar Goyal. 
On the occasion, he said that sports play an important role in keeping the youth physically and mentally fit, besides helping them stay away from drugs and other social evils.
The Cabinet Minister said that the Punjab Government is continuously undertaking initiatives to promote sports at the village level and provide better sports facilities to the youth. 
He said that the development of sports grounds and stadiums in villages provides young people with a suitable platform to hone their sporting talent.
On the occasion, the Cabinet Minister also distributed sports kits among players of various disciplines. Football players were provided with three footballs, 36 pairs of studs, one pair of football nets and one kit bag. 
Similarly, volleyball players were given three volleyballs, one volleyball net and one kit bag, while cricket players were provided with two bats, two boxes of balls and kit bags.
Goyal said that providing the necessary sports equipment to players would encourage them to participate more enthusiastically in sporting activities. He urged the youth to take up sports, work hard and bring laurels to their village, district and state.
He said that the government’s objective is not only to provide better sports infrastructure in villages but also to connect the youth with sports and create a healthy and positive environment for them.
On the occasion, Sarpanch Surinder Singh Billa, Ajaib Singh, Harpreet Singh, officials from various departments, prominent village residents, sports enthusiasts, players and a large number of villagers were present.
The villagers expressed their gratitude to the Punjab Government and Cabinet Minister Barinder Kumar Goyal for dedicating the new sports stadium to the public and providing sports equipment to the players.
