New Delhi/Chandigarh, September 8:- Following the incident of the collapse of a building in Satya Niketan, South West Delhi, the police have arrested its owner from Bhiwadi in Rajasthan. An officer provided this information on Monday. The building had collapsed at around 1:30 p.m. on Sunday while repair work was underway. It housed a boys’ ‘paying guest’ (PG) accommodation. So far, 12 people have been pulled out of the debris in this accident, out of whom 7 have died.
A senior Delhi Police officer said that the owner of the building, Hari Ram Gupta, has been apprehended from Bhiwadi in Rajasthan and further questioning of him is also underway.
The horrifying moment when a multi-storey building collapsed in Delhi’s Satya Niketan on Sunday afternoon was captured on a CCTV camera, causing a huge cloud of dust to engulf the busy area and leaving several people trapped under the debris.
The footage, recorded at around 1:15 p.m., shows a street vendor sitting near his cart when he suddenly looks upward, gets up and runs for safety. Within a few seconds, the building collapses and the camera frame is filled with dust and debris. After at least 7 people lost their lives due to the collapse of a multi-storey building in Delhi’s Satya Niketan, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi took major action on Monday. The civic body suspended five senior officials of its South Zone with immediate effect in connection with the accident. The officials suspended as part of disciplinary action include South Zone Deputy Commissioner Rakesh Kumar, Superintending Engineer, Executive Engineer (Building), Assistant Engineer (Building) and Junior Engineer (Building). According to the suspension orders, these officials will be paid subsistence allowance as per the applicable rules during the period of suspension.
The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), following the fatal building accident in the area in which six lives were lost, has declared a building in Satya Niketan as "ruinous/dangerous" and ordered that it be demolished within three days.
