Nawanshahr: The campaign to prevent the burning of paddy straw in the year 2026 is moving rapidly under the Punjab Government. In this regard, Deputy Commissioner of Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar, Gulpreet Singh Aulakh (IAS), informed that the selection of applicants for subsidies on paddy straw management machines under the Crop Residue Management (CRM) scheme for the year 2026 is scheduled to be held on 03-06-2026 at 11:00 AM at the DC Office.
He invited all farmers who have applied under this scheme to participate in the selection process. He also appealed to all farmers of the district not to burn paddy straw to prevent environmental pollution.
In this connection, Chief Agriculture Officer of Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar, Dr. Lekh Raj Mahi, informed that a total of 2,126 paddy straw management machines are currently available in the district under this scheme. These include in-situ machines such as Super Seeder, Surface Seeder, Happy Seeder, Mulcher, Smart Seeder, and Zero Till Drill, as well as ex-situ machines like Baler, Rake, and Crop Reaper. He appealed to all farmers not to burn straw and to plant more trees.
