Patiala, December 23, 2025: Residents of Aman Nagar Ward Number 17 in Patiala have submitted an application to the Patiala Municipal Corporation regarding the poor condition of roads and public toilets in the ward. A serious complaint has been lodged about the dilapidated condition of the public toilet located near the bypass and under the overbridge opposite Diesel Component Works (DCW). The residents have demanded immediate redressal of these problems.
The petition states that the roads in Ward Number 17 are in a very poor condition. Large potholes have formed in many places due to the loosening of stones and gravel, causing considerable inconvenience to drivers and pedestrians. The residents have also questioned the current councilor, stating that she is never seen in the ward and is not taking any interest in the ward's development work. They have demanded that a responsible officer be appointed for the ward to address issues such as roads, sewerage, and streetlights.
The other major problem is the public toilet constructed by the Municipal Corporation near the bypass and under the overbridge opposite DCW, which has been closed for the past 9-10 months due to a shortage of sanitation workers. Every day, 200-250 vegetable and fruit vendors set up their stalls in this area, and there are 30-40 shops where thousands of people come to shop.
Due to the closure of the toilets, people are forced to defecate in the open, leading to a foul smell and unsanitary conditions. This has also increased the risk of disease outbreaks. The residents said that the matter has been brought to the attention of the Mayor 5-6 times in meetings, but no action has been taken. In addition, truck drivers coming from outside are also polluting the surrounding areas.
The residents have strongly urged the Municipal Corporation to resolve both issues on a priority basis. They said that they would be forever grateful to the corporation if these problems are resolved.
This issue highlights the lack of basic amenities in Patiala city, which the Municipal Corporation needs to address seriously.
