Haryana/Hisar: The politics of Bhiwani city have heated up over alleged corruption, massive financial irregularities, gross negligence in waste management, and illegal interference by outsiders in the Municipal Council (MC) Bhiwani. Priya Asija, a Bhiwani-based social activist and former assembly candidate, has opened a front against the administration and the government regarding this entire matter. She has submitted a formal complaint to the District Municipal Commissioner, Bhiwani, demanding an impartial and high-level investigation into these serious issues. Copies of this complaint have also been sent to Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs Manohar Lal, and Haryana’s Urban Local Bodies Minister Vipul Goyal for necessary legal and departmental action.
In her letter to the District Municipal Commissioner and her statement to the media, Priya Asija stated that several elected councilors of the Bhiwani Municipal Council have been publicly raising serious allegations from time to time regarding corruption, financial irregularities, and rigging in development works within the council. She sharply remarked that the allegations raised by these councilors have cast a serious question mark over the functioning of the Municipal Council. It is evident that the money collected from the public's hard-earned tax is being blatantly misused. She demanded a point-by-point investigation into these allegations and strict punitive action against the guilty.
Priya Asija demanded that the complete details of all expenditures claimed by the Municipal Council in recent years—in the name of benches, signboards, street lights, road construction, drain maintenance, and park beautification—be made public. She called for an independent technical audit of the tender process, work allocation, payments, material quality, and actual implementation of these works.
Raising questions on the sanitation system, she said that despite clear conditions for scientific processing and disposal of garbage, thousands of tons of waste are piled up at the dumping ground. The lack of processing is a direct violation of contract terms and the Solid Waste Management Rules. This situation has become a serious threat to the city's environment and public health, for which the accountability of concerned officials and contractors must be fixed.
Addressing a very serious issue, Priya Asija stated that there are widespread discussions and complaints about the husband, brother-in-law, and other relatives of the elected female Chairperson directly interfering in the administrative and official work of the Council instead of the Chairperson herself. If a non-elected person is influencing the council's decisions and meetings, it is completely against the spirit of local self-governance and women's reservation. A thorough investigation into this matter is also necessary.
She demanded an independent financial and technical audit of all major development works, purchases, tenders, and payments of the Bhiwani Municipal Council, and that the report be made public in the interest of the people so that the truth is revealed. Priya Asija concluded by saying that the Municipal Council runs on public funds; therefore, every expenditure must be transparent, accountable, and legally sound.
