Hoshiarpur:- A state-level meeting of Powercom and Transco Contract Employees Union Punjab was held. Issuing a press statement, state president Balihar Singh and press secretary Inderpreet Singh said that the 'AAP government', which came to power by promising to regularize the contract employees of government departments, is also spending its time by keeping the contract employees in limbo like the previous governments.
Even after Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann announced to stop the rampant looting of contract employees, contract employees are still forced to grind in the mill of the contract system and the 'AAP government' has not made any policy in its four-year tenure to merge the outsourced and enlisted contract employees, who have been serving diligently in various government departments for a long time on low salaries, into the departments and make them permanent.
In protest against which, under the banner of 'Theka Mulazam Sangharsh Morcha Punjab', contract employees of government departments will hold a state-level rally with their families and children in the grain market of Dirba on "07 February 2026". In which contract employees of Powercom and Transco will participate along with their families and children, the leaders demanded from the Punjab government to cancel the policy of privatization of government departments.
Outsourced and enlisted contract employees of government departments should be merged into departments on the basis of priority and experience and the salary of contract employees should be fixed as per the formula of Minimum Wages Act 1948 / Fifteenth Labour Conference. In case of death/disability during the service period, the family member should be given government job, pension and suitable compensation. Pension and maintenance fund should be given to contract employees after their retirement.
Powercom contract employees will participate in the Dirba rally with their families on February 7
