Nawanshahr: Krishi Vigyan Kendra (PAU-KVK), Langroya, under the aegis of Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) and ICAR-ATARI, organized a comprehensive awareness camp on the subject of "Balanced Use of Fertilizers." Thirty-five progressive farmers from the region participated enthusiastically in this program held at the PAU campus, which was conducted under the able leadership of Dr. Pradeep Kumar, Associate Director (Training).
Dr. Tejbir Singh (Animal Science) informed the attendees that the indiscriminate use of chemical fertilizers directly affects livestock. He explained that chemical runoff and contaminated fodder could lead to serious diseases in animals; therefore, balanced soil nutrition is urgently needed to protect livestock.
Dr. Rajinder Kaur, Assistant Professor (Home Science), provided information on the interrelationship between agriculture and human health. She highlighted how excessive use of fertilizers causes serious health problems in humans through the food chain. She particularly urged young farmers to adopt a balanced diet to maintain good health and physical well-being.
Dr. Aarti Verma (Vegetable Science) shared crucial information regarding natural farming methods. She encouraged farmers to reduce their dependence on synthetic/chemical fertilizers and to adopt eco-friendly alternatives for vegetable cultivation, ensuring the harvest is chemical-free and rich in nutrients.
The camp concluded successfully with a discussion session where farmers clarified their doubts regarding soil testing and organic alternatives. This initiative reflects the Krishi Vigyan Kendra's ongoing commitment to making traditional farming safer and more economically viable for the agricultural community of Punjab.
