Sangrur, June 3:- Senior Superintendent of Police, Sangrur, Dr. Ravjot Grewal (IPS), informed that during the ongoing campaign 'War against Drugs', 'Pindaan De Pehredar', and drive against anti-social elements, the Sangrur sub-division police registered 01 case under the NDPS Act between May 27 and June 02, 2026, and arrested 01 accused with 30 grams of heroin/chitta. Additionally, 01 case was registered under the Excise Act, leading to the arrest of 01 accused and the recovery of 12 bottles of country-made liquor.
She stated that 09 other accused were arrested for various crimes, and 02 individuals trapped in drug addiction were provided with medical treatment to help them quit. Furthermore, 02 cases were registered regarding mobile and vehicle snatching in various areas of the Sangrur sub-division, resulting in the arrest of 06 accused and the recovery of 03 snatched/stolen mobile phones, one Activa scooter, one Splendor motorcycle, one Zen car, and 2,600 rupees in cash.
Approximately 64 traffic challans were issued for various violations of traffic rules. Following the checking of suspicious persons, action was taken against 132 individuals under section 172 of the BNSS, and preventive action was taken against 02 persons.
An appeal was made to the public to cooperate in the anti-drug campaign. Awareness is being raised among the general public and youth by holding meetings with panchayats, sports clubs, and prominent citizens, urging them to provide timely information to the police regarding drug activities to eradicate this menace. The police are taking strict legal action against drug peddlers and anti-social elements upon receiving information. The war against drugs continues.
