Nawanshahr:- In view of the three-day National Pulse Polio Campaign starting from June 28 in Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar district, Deputy Commissioner **Gulpreet Singh Aulakh** has appealed to the residents of the district to give polio drops to every child between the ages of 0 and 5 and contribute to making this national campaign a success.
The Deputy Commissioner said that polio is a serious disease, which can cause permanent disability in children. The most effective way to prevent it is to give polio drops every time. He said that although India is a polio-free country, the polio virus is still present in neighboring countries Pakistan and Afghanistan, due to which it is very important to take constant precautions.
He said that on June 28, polio drops will be administered to children at polio booths set up across the district. After this, on June 29 and 30, teams of the health department will go door to door to administer drops to those children who will not be able to reach the booths on the first day due to some reason.
S. Aulakh appealed to the parents not to fall into any kind of rumour or illusion and to administer polio drops to every child during this campaign, even if the child has already been regularly vaccinated or has been administered polio drops before.
He said that all necessary arrangements have been completed by the district administration and the health department for the successful conduct of the campaign. Along with this, social, religious and voluntary organizations, panchayat representatives, ASHA workers and the general public have also been appealed to actively cooperate in this public interest campaign.
The Deputy Commissioner expressed confidence that with the full support of the district residents, no child in the age group of 0 to 5 years of the district will be deprived of taking polio drops and the district of Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar will make its significant contribution in strengthening the polio-free India.
