Nawanshahr:- Under the 'Mission Vatsalya' scheme of the Department of Women and Child Development, Punjab, government children's homes are being run for the protection and care of destitute and needy children. These homes provide free food, shelter, and education to missing, destitute, exploited, runaway, or abandoned children.
Hon'ble Deputy Commissioner, Shri Gurpreet Singh Aulakh (IAS), shared the story of a 19-year-old youth who is speech and hearing impaired. He was found missing in Nawanshahr district at the age of 15. The District Child Protection Unit, Nawanshahr, placed him in the Children's Home for Boys, Hoshiarpur, as per the orders of the Child Welfare Committee, and later shifted him to 'Heavenly Angel Home', Doraha (Ludhiana). Through fingerprinting and Aadhar card details, it was discovered that the boy belonged to Purnia district, Bihar. Following the directions of District Program Officer, Shri Jagroop Singh, and under the leadership of District Child Protection Officer, Kanchan Arora, the boy’s family was traced, and he was reunited with them at the age of 19.
District Child Protection Officer Kanchan Arora mentioned that the boy was an only son, and his parents had lost hope of finding him due to his speech and hearing impairment. The management of Heavenly Angel Home provides financial assistance of one lakh rupees to children leaving the home after turning 18, enabling them to become self-reliant. Since the boy was reunited with his parents after turning 18, the Hon'ble Deputy Commissioner handed over the bank passbook containing the one lakh rupees financial assistance to the parents. 
The boy's mother, Sulekha Devi, expressed her gratitude to the Deputy Commissioner and the District Child Protection Officer. The Deputy Commissioner also appreciated the noble initiative of the management of Heavenly Angel Children's Home, Doraha, Ludhiana.
