Thiruvananthapuram:- The NDA achieved a major victory in the local body elections in Kerala. The alliance won 50 out of 101 wards in the Thiruvananthapuram Municipal Corporation, an area held by the Left Democratic Front for the last 45 years. The LDF won 29 wards, while the Congress alliance won 19.
In the 2020 Thiruvananthapuram local body elections, the LDF won 52 wards. The BJP-led NDA won 33 wards, and the UDF won 10. Thiruvananthapuram is considered a stronghold of Congress MP Shashi Tharoor.
The counting of votes for the 1,199 local bodies in Kerala began at 8 am. Voting was held in two phases on December 9 and 11. The oath-taking ceremony of the elected panchayat members, municipal councilors and corporation councilors will be held on December 21.
