Bhind/Madhya Pradesh: Eight laborers were killed and 32 others seriously injured in a severe collision between a pickup vehicle and a dumper truck near Chhimka village on the Bhind-Gwalior National Highway in Madhya Pradesh's Bhind district. The accident occurred late at night, around 1:00 AM.
According to the police, the laborers were returning to their homes in Lakhimpur Kheri, Uttar Pradesh, in the pickup vehicle after completing paddy transplantation work in the Chinor area of ??Gwalior. Ramnaresh Yadav, Station In-charge of Gohad Chauraha, stated that preliminary investigations revealed the pickup driver lost control while trying to avoid a herd of cattle on the highway; consequently, the vehicle veered into the wrong lane and collided head-on with an oncoming speeding dumper.
The impact was so severe that the pickup vehicle was mangled, and many laborers were trapped inside. Five laborers died on the spot, while three others succumbed to their injuries while being transported to the hospital. Upon receiving information about the incident, the police, assisted by locals, launched a rescue operation and extricated all the injured.
The injured were initially taken to the Gohad health center, from where those with serious injuries were referred to Gwalior for advanced medical treatment. The police have sent the bodies for post-mortem examinations and have initiated contact with the victims' families.
