Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar, September 15, 2026:- Under the leadership of Punjab Chief Minister S. Bhagwant Singh Mann, the Punjab Government is developing sports infrastructure on a large scale across the state to promote sports and connect youth with sporting activities. As part of this initiative, around 3,100 sports stadiums are being constructed across the state, while 32 sports stadiums are under construction in the Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar Assembly constituency, several of which have already been completed.
MLA S. Kulwant Singh made these remarks while speaking to journalists today after inaugurating and dedicating to the public a badminton court constructed by the Mohali Municipal Corporation in Ward No. 6 at a cost of approximately Rs. 13 lakh. The project was completed in response to the demand of ward residents and through the efforts of Punjab Water Supply and Sewerage Board Chairman and Councillor Dr. Sunny Ahluwalia.
MLA Kulwant Singh said that the government's main objective is to connect youth with sports and channel their energy in a constructive direction. He said that with the expansion of sports facilities, young people would not only remain fit but would also be able to showcase their talent in the field of sports. He said that under the leadership of Chief Minister S. Bhagwant Singh Mann, continuous efforts are being made to promote a sporting culture in Punjab, with positive results becoming visible.
He said that yoga classes are also being conducted across Punjab under the ‘Chief Minister Yogshala’ initiative and sports fairs are being organised at various levels by sports organisers. He said that the priority being given to sports by the government has increased interest in sports among youth and this is an important step towards creating a healthier and better society.
MLA Kulwant Singh praised Councillor Dr. Sunny Ahluwalia and said that he continuously works among the people to understand their problems and needs. He said that the availability of a badminton court in the ward would greatly benefit sports players in the area, particularly the youth.
On the occasion, Dr. Sunny Ahluwalia said that the badminton court had been constructed to fulfil the long-standing demand of ward residents. He said that the facility would prove to be a boon for sportspersons in the area and would play an important role in connecting youth with sports.
