Karnal, April 13: Two notorious criminals were injured during a late-night encounter between the police and miscreants in Karnal, while a police officer had a narrow escape. Both accused individuals have been arrested and admitted to the hospital, and a large quantity of illegal weapons has been recovered from their possession. Late Monday night in Karnal, Haryana, the police received intelligence that two suspicious youths riding a motorcycle were heading from Munak towards Karnal, apparently plotting to commit a crime. Acting on this information, the police set up a roadblock on Munak Road.
A short while later, two youths riding a motorcycle—with their faces covered—were spotted approaching. Upon seeing the police, they immediately turned their bike around and attempted to flee. As the police gave chase, the criminals changed their route and headed towards Daha Bajida Road. During this pursuit, the youth riding pillion opened fire on the police team. In a retaliatory move, the police attempted to intercept them; however, amidst the darkness, the motorcycle lost its balance and crashed. Even after falling, both criminals continued to flee and once again opened fire on the police.
During this exchange, one bullet struck Police Constable Manoj's bulletproof jacket—saving his life—while another bullet whizzed just over the head of a fellow officer. The police issued multiple warnings, but when the accused failed to halt, the officers first fired warning shots into the air before firing shots aimed at their legs. Both criminals collapsed, injured, whereupon the police immediately apprehended them at the scene.
During a subsequent search, two illegal pistols, over 100 live cartridges, and a motorcycle were recovered from the accused. The injured criminals were immediately admitted to the Trauma Center at the Civil Hospital in Karnal, where they are currently undergoing treatment.
According to the police, the arrested individuals have been identified as Raunak, a resident of Jajal village in Sonipat district, and Imran, a resident of Garh Malikpur. Raunak sustained a gunshot wound to his left leg, while Imran was shot in his right leg. The police are investigating from every angle and are actively searching for other potential accomplices.
Sub-Inspector Lachhman Singh stated that once the accused recover, they will be produced in court and taken into custody on remand. During interrogation, efforts will be made to ascertain the source of their weapons and the crime they were planning to commit. Currently, the police have registered a case and initiated an investigation.
